Celebrate Recovery
Purpose
The purpose of Whiteford Church’s “Celebrate Recovery” is to fellowship and celebrates God’s healing power in our lives through the 8 Recovery Principles. The experience allows us to “be changed.” We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God’s grace in solving our lives’ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive, and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy, and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power – Jesus Christ.
God’s Promise of Recovery
It would be wonderful if we all had self-control. But, trying to find it within ourselves can become as much of an obsession as our primary addiction. The more we try to get a hold on it, the more elusive it seems. We have failed miserably trying to control our hurts, habits, and hang-ups by ourselves. It’s only through faith in Christ, that we can begin the process of recovery. In 2 Peter 1:2-9, we find that “self-control” is actually one step in the middle of a progression of steps that paint a picture of recovery.
2 Peter 1:2-9 (The Message)
Grace and peace to you many times over as you deepen in your experience with God and Jesus, our Master. Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received! We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you--your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.
So don't lose a minute in building on what you've been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can't see what's right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books.
